As a new day emerged, I decided to explore beyond the city limits. Uxmal. Is a city is that is relatively unknown to foreigners when you compare it to Chichen Itza, but to Mexican tourism it is another great site of interest. I would like to tell you that this is one of those places that is less explored and that you will have it to yourself but in reality is that it has plenty of tourism specially during the weekends where Mexican tourism is prevalent. This not to say that a visit to this magnificent city is not worth it because although you might be tempted to think that all Mayan cities are the same, I will tell you that is not the case, Uxmal retains it’s own essence and differentiates itself on its history and rewards those that venture to explore it. Although the temple Dedicated to the god serpent is not open for you to climb, there are other temples where you can have a closer look and enjoy wonderful and uncommonly beautiful views.
On a different day trip I decided to visit the hacienda Mucuyche and this place has some amazing cenotes (sink holes). In theory you go over three of this cenotes but all of them are interconnected and is going basically from the first cenote that serves as a door to one that functions as a beautiful path to the last one that is a cave, a true intimate encounter with the beauty of the cenote is on display by the tactical placement of underwater lights. This beautiful arrangement allows you a view of the bottom of this marvelous place and it's the closest thing that you can do to scuba diving a centoe with actually doing it so. Although the entrance is a little bit higher than other similar places around the area, I must say that I enjoyed every minute that I was allowed to stay inside that beautiful cave.
