My last day trip was to one of the closest destinations to Merida, only one hour and 20 minutes away there lies the town and cooperative of Celesutn. The town borders the biosphere of the same name and when you hire a boat (waring you actually have to hire an entire boat) You will be taken to see the flamingos and the luscious vegetation of this beautiful natural reserve. The color of the flamingos is certainly striking and if you go on high season the amount of flamingos is nothing but overwhelmingly enjoyable, the particular color of the flamingos of this area is due to the specific plankton and diet the flamingos have in this area. I never seen this orangey pink tone that mixes so well with its environment, creating a beautiful contrast between the animals and its habitat. You will also learn how this kind of environment helps sustain not only the animals that live in it, but even us as one of the other species that depend and interact directly or indirectly with this beautiful biosphere.
